Local Muslim Bar Affiliates

Over the past several years, a number of formal and informal local groups of Muslim attorneys, law students and other interested individuals have been established across the country. NAML hopes to have a symbiotic relationship with these groups, as there are an abundance of common interests. In hopes of encouraging local group development, below is the most recent contact information for such groups, as well as a brief summary of their activities as provided by local group members.

Several of these groups have developed email lists for posting announcements and exchanging information relevant to local attorneys. If you are a member of one of these groups, or are interested in creating a group, and would like to facilitate email discussion, we suggest that you look into services like groups.yahoo.com which should allow your group to communicate more effectively and share files with one another.

The Bay Area Association of Muslim Lawyers (BAAML) was founded in September 2001 to serve as a resource for local Muslim communities coping with backlash hate crimes and discrimination after the 9/11 attacks.  Since that time, BAAML has delivered "know your rights" presentations to numerous community groups, trained attorneys on representing individuals in FBI interviews, and served as a liaison between the Muslim community and legal and civil rights organizations.  The group now numbers over 100 lawyers and law students. If you'd like to join our mailing list, please e-mail
